Great Dinner music to play to get the right vibe going into Dancing.

Dinner Music is important. It sets the vibe going forward and it allows the DJ to see what works and doesn’t work in the room. We Love Funky Dinner Music. Does the crowd respond to Rock or RnB? Do they like that Bob Marley tune? Did they stink face that 80s hit? Dinner usually lasts anywhere from 2-4 hours… why not make it fun.

Here is my Great Dinner Music List:

  • Stand By Me – Ben E. King
  • Island in the Sun – Weezer
  • Oh What a Night – Franki Valli & Four Seasons
  • The Way You Make Me Feel – Michael Jackson
  • Jammin – Bob Marley
  • My Girl – Four Tops
  • Can't Get Enough of Your Love – Barry White
  • Juicy – Biggie
  • Too Close – Next
  • Got To Give It Up - Marvin Gaye
  • Hold Me - Fleetwood Mac
  • Boots n Hearts - Tragically Hip
  • Adorn - Miguel
  • I'm Yours - Jason Miraz

Some people like quiet dinner music playing. There is nothing wrong with that. You might just want to get the people to talk during dinner. Sometimes dinner is 4 or 5 hours long so you gotta start slow. Plus, the music shouldn't be loud. Playing some Sinatra, Buble or other classic dinner music is fine but towards the end you want to start gearing for the dance floor.

If it's a wedding I tend to ask the Bride or Groom if there are any songs they'd like to hear during dinner. I'll also ask if there are songs that might mean something to family members. For example... I had couple celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary and played their first song. It was nice.

Sometime I'll ask what's someone's favourite band. Usually Pearl Jam or Red Hot Chilli Peppers don't get played during the dance portion of the night but they've got some great songs you can play during dinner.

Don't forget... There are also a lot of covers, Swing versions, Instrumentals and String Quartet versions of just about every song imaginable.

Listen to the String Quartet version of Enter Sandman here or listen to the awesome version of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Postmodern Jukebox

My wife loves this version of Heart of Glass by Blondie performed by Greg Woodward.

Dinner music is important and shouldn't be overlooked.
